Summary
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, usually found as a liquid in its pure form.It is well known as The Sunshine Vitamin! – because it can be synthesised in the skin through exposure to sunlight.
Vitamin D’s main role is to help in regulating phosphorous and calcium in the body. These minerals are responsible for hardening the bones and assisting healthy growth and development.
Vitamin D also stimulates the gut into absorbing calcium, and the kidneys into re-absorbing calcium. It can help prevent Rickets – a condition caused by a calcium deficiency due to a lack of Vitamin D. It causes bones to lose calcium and become soft and curved.
