Summary

Chitosan

  • This is a simple substance taken from Chitin – a polysaccharide found in the exoskeletons of crustaceans.
  • It is processed by removing the shells from shellfish (crabs, shrimp, lobster) and grinding them into a powder. The powder is then stripped of the chemicals which allow it to soak up fats.
  • Chitosan acts in the body as a fat magnet – it has a positive ionic charge and fat a negative charge, so they are naturally attracted.
  • The Chitosan converts to a gel to trap the fat, and then binds with the fat molecules and converts them into a form which the human body does not absorb.
  • It affects fat before it reaches the stomach so it is not metabolised.
  • The converted fat is then excreted in stools.
  • With less fat entering the body, it turns to the stores already available and burns up body fat.
  • Chitosan is boosted by taking citric acid/vitamin C as this affects the swelling action.

    Guarana

  • The main ingredient is Guaranine, which is identical to caffeine.
  • Caffeine is an appetite suppressant, so guarana can help to control food cravings.
  • It also has stimulant properties, so can boost alertness and fight fatigue.
  • The caffeine in Guarana is released slowly (over 6 hours), so the effects are much more stable and long lasting then those of coffee.
